s. 1 — Definition

In this Regulation,

s. 1 — out of province dentist

“out of province dentist” means a person who is exempted from subsections 9 (1) and (2) of the Dentistry Act, 1991 by a regulation made under that Act; (“dentiste hors province”)

s. 1 — out of province optometrist

“out of province optometrist” means a person who is exempted from subsections 9 (1) and (2) of the Optometry Act, 1991 by a regulation made under that Act; (“optométriste hors province”)

s. 1 — out of province physician

“out of province physician” means a person who is exempted from subsections 9 (1) and (3) of the Medicine Act, 1991 by a regulation made under that Act and who holds the equivalent of a certificate of registration authorizing independent practice in Ontario; (“médecin hors province”)

s. 1 — out of province psychologist

“out of province psychologist” means a person who is exempted from subsections 8 (1) and (2) of the Psychology and Applied Behaviour Analysis Act, 2021 by a regulation made under that Act and who holds, in another jurisdiction specified in that regulation, the equivalent of a certificate of registration for a psychologist authorizing autonomous practice in Ontario. (“psychologue hors province”) ;

s. 2 — Use of “doctor” title

(1) Despite subsection 33 (1) of the Act, the following persons may use the title “doctor”, a variation or abbreviation or an equivalent in another language in the course of providing or offering to provide, in Ontario, health care to individuals:

An out of province dentist.

s. 2(1)(2)

An out of province optometrist.

s. 2(1)(3)

An out of province physician.

s. 2(1)(4)

An out of province psychologist.

In this section,

s. 2(2) — abbreviation

“abbreviation” includes an abbreviation of a variation.
