    The officer to whom the documents referred to in subsection (1) are delivered shall keep them during the ship’s stay in the port and on the application of the master or a person on his behalf shall return the documents to him within a reasonable time prior to the expected time of departure of the ship, with a certificate endorsed on the agreement with the crew indicating the times each of the documents was delivered to him and returned by him.
